Killearn show is recording breaking

Killearn Cottagers’ Horticultural Society had a record-breaking show on Saturday.

Good weather prior to the show saw exhibitors from far and wide – Stirling to Milngavie and Kirkintilloch with most villages in rural west Stirlingshire represented – resulting in a record-breaking 815 entries with 229 entries in the fruit and vegetable section alone.

Gala Day return for Killearn Hoolie

Killearn is set to come to life over the next few days with a week’s celebration of community spirit and enterprise – including the village’s first gala day in seven years.

The Killearn Hoolie week will launch with the Killearn Fun Run 10k and 5k races on Sunday – plus a 2k jog for children – from the village centre out along the water pipeline towards Strathblane.

Turbines bid could impact on Stirling

A CLOSE eye is being kept on the potential impact of a proposed windfarm.

Lomond Energy Ltd is proposing to develop a 14-turbine windfarm on Hill of Standing Stones between Merkins Muir and Auchenreoch Muir, on the north-west slopes of the Kilpatrick Hills.

Drinking ban extension

OUTDOOR drinking could be banned in a wider area of Loch Lomond.

Buchanan Community Council wants to have the byelaws extended to cover the east side of the loch.

Strathblane man claimed crashed car had been stolen

A MOTORIST who crashed his car after a night out and then told police it had been stolen has been ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service.

James Ogilvie (20) was caught when tests found his blood on the activated airbag.

Killearn goes the extra mile for charity

Lost chances mean Killearn miss final

YET another trophy slipped away from Killearn on Sunday, when they were unable to beat 10-man Deanston in the Telfer Cup semi-final at Drymen.

It started off well enough for Killearn and they carried most of the early threat, although they failed to cash in on their pressure.

They had the ball in the Deanston net after a goalmouth scramble but the referee ruled Alan More offside.

Killearn keep the pressure on

KILLEARN maintained their position in the title race on Saturday when they joined the small number of visiting sides to have taken full points at Thornhill this season.

The reigning champions were without regular keeper Stuart Ashworth and his deputy Colin Banks. In their absence the gloves were given to utility man Chris Jewell and early on Chris had no more than a passing interest in fierce shots from Thornhill’s Andy Bailey and Gareth Killen. Fortunately for him and Killearn, both came back off the bar. The first goal of the match went to Killearn when Alan More scored the opener from the penalty spot.

Killearn start summer football title defence

FORTH & ENDRICK’S 99th season of summer football starts on Saturday evening.

The same 12 clubs will be taking part as last year and as usual, some clubs will not be able to call on the services of all their players as many will still be tied to winter clubs.

Killearn on brink of keeping title

THE major surprise at Killearn was the difficulty the champions had in the first half in subduing lowly Kippen. Allan More and David Cameron both scored in the first 10 minutes of the game and at that point it looked as if another big score was on the cards.

The young Kippen side had other ideas and got their reward on the half-hour mark when Matthew Lygate thundered in a 25-yard shot and at half-time Kippen were still only 2-1 behind.
