OAP accident costs distillery £12,000

A pensioner has been awarded £12,000 in compensation after an accident at the Glengoyne Distillery by Killearn.

Margaret Buttle (82) from Somerset was touring the Trossachs on a coach tour when she and her party paid a visit to the distillery in September 2010

She caught her foot on a piece of wood sticking out from some stairs during the tour and fell, suffering a fracture of her ankle.

£25k boost for Killearn to Balfron path plans

Plans for a path to link two rural villages have taken a step forward after a funding boost.

Killearn Community Futures Company is planning to build a footpath between Killearn and Balfron to ensure that walkers can travel between the two areas safely.

Killearn Cottagers’ annual show

The Killearn Cottagers’ Horticultural Society Annual Show will be held on Saturday, August 31 in the spectacular newly extended and renovated village hall and in the church hall.

They are expecting a good turn out both from growers and viewers and hoping for a plentiful crop of horticultural exhibits as well as the work of artists, photographers, crafts people and bakers.

T in the Park: The Killers trade their Las Vegas sunshine for a wee dram

IT’S a fair swap. The Killers will bring the sunshine and we’ll give them our whisky.

OK, so the last week has been lovely and hot anyway but just to be sure, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr has vowed to pocket the Las Vegas sunshine, “divide it into my hand luggage and bring it to Scotland. That’s a fair trade”.

All he wants in return is whisky.

And he’s not even asking for a freebie. Instead he’s planning to go to the Glengoyne Distillery, near Killearn, Stirlingshire, on Monday.

Killearn Primary triumphs on the lacrosse pitch

Killearn Primary School has Scotland’s highest ranked Lacrosse team in twenty years.

The seven strong primary school team were runners up in the Plate Play Off at the British National Pop Lacrosse Championships held in Hatfield, London on Sunday, June 16.

Parks suffer in jubilee status bid

Poor marketing has been blamed for Killearn’s public park being the only one in the Stirling Council to be nominated for national recognition as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Eleven local parks were put forward by the council for the Queen Elizabeth Fields Challenge, which seeks to retain and protect 2012 playing fields and parks across the UK, including 214 in Scotland.

Snow closes Scottish schools and causes travel problems

Accidents were reported around the country and a school bus came off the road between Killearn and Balfron in Stirlingshire but nobody was injured in the incident.

The Met Office has put out a renewed warning of snow for eastern and south west Scotland which lasts until Saturday.

STRATHENDRICK Pals meet for their first day out of the year when they undertake a shopping and theatre visit to Callander.

Killearn Town Hall to be transformed

AN EXCITING project to transform a dilapidated old town hall in a rural village into a state-of-the-art facility is well underway.

The former Stirling council building in Balfron Road, Killearn, is undergoing a miraculous transformation which is due to be completed by May this year.
