“Outrage” over garden proposal

Killearn Community Council has failed in a bid to prevent a piece of land in a village housing estate being turned into a private garden.

Applicant Karen Lindsay had submitted application to Stirling Council planners for change of use and erection of a boundary fence next to 16 Rowan Crescent, which was discussed before Stirling Council’s planning panel at a hearing on Tuesday.

Killearn low water pressure (update)

Taken from the Scottish Water website.

“G63 – Blanefield, Killearn & surrounding area – last updated 09:20am

Following loss of supply issues, tankering is in place in both Blanefield and Killearn to maintain and restore supplies. Supplies should now be restored for customers in the Blanefield, Killearn areas. Customers in Brandairt Road may have an intermittent supply due to the tankering. We will have a squad on site today to locate and repair bursts. When supplies are fully restored customers may also experience some discolouration to their supply, this discolouration is harmless and will gradually disappear as the system returns to normal.”

Warning from Central Scotland Police

Drivers should be aware that roads in Central Scotland may be affected by ice as temperatures begin to fall into late afternoon.

Chief Inspector Donald McMillan, head of Roads Policing in the Forth Valley, said: “As the sun goes down, the temperatures are likely to fall further and ice is more likely to form on road surfaces.

“Black ice in particular is more likely in areas where snow is lying at the side of carriageways and where there has been some melting. That meltwater is likely to freeze over as we see more sub-zero temperatures as forecast.

“I would ask motorists to continue to plan ahead, be aware of the weather forecasts, be prepared in terms of your own welfare and your vehicle and drive with care.

“The major routes across the Forth Valley remain open and traffic is flowing as normal.”

Balfron High School – Bus Information

Stirling Council have made the decision that there is to be no school transport operating Thursday 16 December 2010. This is due to the assessment of further poor weather conditions that may affect the Council area and is required that no school transport should be operated even if schools are open. We have also been advised that drivers will be informing schoolchildren waiting at bus stops for service buses, not to travel to school on a service bus as there may be no service to return homewards.

We have been advised that the weather forecast is for heavy persistent rain over night. Tomorrow the temperature will be freezing resulting in widespread icy stretches forming after 0600 and a brief spell of snow. The rest of the day is predicted to be dry and bright.

The Council is hopeful that they can provide transport as from Friday 17 December 2010.

Balfron High School will be open but from 10am only but only for those pupils who can safely get to school and back home again without school transport.

Please check the Stirling Council website for updates for transport on Friday and from Monday 20 December 2010.
