King Arthur film views inspire magic Scottish tourism drive

The campaign comes in the run-up to the release of the Guy Ritchie film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword in May.

Scenes from Scotland in the movie include the Devil’s Pulpit, near Killearn, and The Bealach at Applecross.

Sir Arnold Clark, the founder of Britain’s biggest independent group of car dealerships, has died at the age of 89.

The billionaire was born in Glasgow, where he set up his first showroom in 1954 after leaving the RAF.

FUTURE OF THE KILLEARN HOTEL PUBLIC MEETING
THURSDAY 9th MARCH 7.30pm

If you are interested at all in the future of the Killearn Hotel building, please come along to a public meeting tomorrow evening at 7.30pm in the Village Hall Garden Room. The meeting has been arranged at short notice following almost one hundred members of the community joining a Facebook Group “Save the Black Bull” which was created less than a week ago.

A full planning application to develop residential apartments on the site has been lodged with Stirling Council by a developer. Tomorrow’s meeting may be the last chance for members of the community to have a say in the future of the building. Whatever your views, they are most welcome.

Killearn Fireworks Extravaganza, help wanted!

As the organisers are expecting higher than normal numbers of spectators to come along to thus evening’s Killearn Fireworks Extravaganza we’re putting out a call for an extra 8 volunteers to shake a bucket to collect entrance donations on the gates. If you’re able to help this evening, please come along to a meeting in the Church hall at 6.00pm (4th November 2016) to collect your buckets and a steward’s hi-viz vests. Thanks.

Right now, we believe it’s mainly only the Station Road area of the village, that is getting it right now. But it’s a start!

Nearly £10k funding to uncover history of Killearn’s Glen

Killearn Glen (30-03-2003)Killearn Community Futures Company’s Path Group has received £9,600 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for their project ‘Killearn Glen: Rediscovering the Community’s Lost Landscape’.

Norman McNab said: “I am delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded us a grant which should give a fascinating insight into the Glen’s past. Our success was enabled by the very positive support of Stirling Council, who own the Glen, and the professional help of Green Aspirations Scotland.”
