MBE honour for Kilearn businessman

A Killearn businessman was awarded an MBE last week for his services to the business community and charity work spanning 20 years.

John Fortune-Fraser (80) was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours list and presented with the award by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace last week.

Police slam parents after drunken teenage party in Killearn

The police slammed parents for being ‘niave’ after they had to ‘babysit’ over 100 teenagers who met in Killearn for a drunken party.

Children aged 13 to 14 from nearby Stirlingshire villages met up in the posh village on Saturday, October 13 after telling parents they were going for a sleepovers with pals.

Killearn Community Council’s next meeting

The next meeting of Killearn Community Council will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 8pm in Killearn Primary School.

The first item on the agenda will be a presentation by Murray Cook, Stirling Council’s archaeologist, on his recent work in the area.

Police slam parents as drunk kids party in posh Scots village

More than 100 kids gathered for a drunken party in a posh village after telling parents they were going to a sleepover with pals.

And police yesterday slammed parents as naive after revealing they were forced to “babysit” drunk 13 and 14-year-olds.

About 30 litres of booze were confiscated from kids at the party in Killearn, Stirlingshire, which was organised via Facebook.

Police name A81 crash fatality as Andrew Morrison

A 69-year-old man who died following a crash on the A81 in Stirlingshire has been named by police.

Andrew Morrison, from Erskine, died in hospital after the one-vehicle accident on the A81 between Ballat crossroads and Blane Smithy roundabout near Killearn about 08:10 on Wednesday.

The 69-year-old man was driving the only vehicle involved in the accident on the A81 between Ballat Crossroads and the Blane Smithy Roundabout just after 08:00.

A walking route in Scotland has been included on a US travel magazine’s list of the world’s best hikes.

The West Highland Way covers 96 miles (154.4km) from Milngavie on the outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William.

Hoolie defies the elements

KILLEARN’S first ever beer festival at The Old Mill at the beginning of June has been hailed as a phenomenal success this week by the organisers.

Despite the rainy weather everyone enjoyed the fortnight of fun, frolics and community camaraderie thanks to a fantastic line-up of events for the village Hoolie.
