Former Killearn hospital staff honoured with street names on new development

Community councillors have confirmed that former staff of the old Killearn Hospital are to be remembered via new housing on the site.

Last August, the Observer reported that Stirling Council planners were considering suggestions for names of new roads in the Cala Homes development – with the names of former staff of the old hospital among those under consideration.

Plans approved for ‘phased development’ of former Killearn Hospital site

Plans to develop the site of the former Killearn Hospital will now be carried out in two separate phases to hasten transformation of the long-term derelict land.

In 2020, developers Cala Homes were given planning permission to build 89 new houses at the derelict rural location, with an area of the site earmarked for development as commercial space.

First look: Scottish builder’s plans for former Killearn Hospital

A SCOTTISH housebuilder has released a taster of what house-buyers can expect from its development plans for the grounds of the former Killearn Hospital.

CALA Homes (West) has submitted a planning application to Stirling Council to build 89 homes of varying size on the site. It released a computer-generated image today (pictured) that it says reveals how it will transform the derelict location into a “vibrant community that incorporates plentiful green space and complements its rural location”.

Hoping to reconnect with childhood friends after more 50 years

A woman who left New Stevenston more than 50 years ago to pursue a nursing career is trying to reconnect with some childhood friends.

Betty Astle moved from Newarthill to Wrangholm Drive during third year at Dalziel High and became good friends with Theresa McDaid and Ray Reid before beginning her training at Killearn Hospital in 1962.

Developers are embarking on a new bid to transform the former Killearn Hospital site.
