Whitleys’ in the Village closes down

Good morning everybody. We are very sad to have to let you know that Whitleys’ in the Village Coffee Shop is now closed. We would like to thank you all for your support over the past year.

This is very sad news indeed. Guess they, did not get the support they needed from the village…

 

Killearn voluntary group gets equivalent of an MBE

A voluntary group in Killearn has received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Sevice – the equivalent of an MBE for a group.

Volunteers at Friends of Abbeyfield Killearn have been recognised for their efforts in providing care and support for elderly people in the local community.

Mrs Brown’s Boy Gary Hollywood’s John Hartson charity gig in Killearn

Mrs Brown’s Boys’ actor Gary Hollywood and rock’n’roll bagpipers the Red Hot Chilli Pipers star at a fundraiser in Killearn for ex-Celtic player John Hartson’s charity next month.

Gary – who has just finished filming the movie version of the hit comedy – is hosting the annual Big Shindig, held in memory of Balfron woman Lisa Morrison who lost her battle to cervical cancer in February 2012.

Killearn Cottagers’ annual show

The Killearn Cottagers’ Horticultural Society Annual Show will be held on Saturday, August 31 in the spectacular newly extended and renovated village hall and in the church hall.

They are expecting a good turn out both from growers and viewers and hoping for a plentiful crop of horticultural exhibits as well as the work of artists, photographers, crafts people and bakers.

Roadworks misery as A81 closed through Strathblane

Drivers faced a 12 -mile detour after the A81 Glasgow Road through Strathblane was closed for five days for resurfacing work this week.

The closure meant that anyone wanting to drive from one end of the village to the other had to travel through Milngavie and back.

Drivers hit by 12-mile road detour

FURIOUS motorists have slammed a road ­closure that takes ­drivers on a 12-mile ­detour.

The A81 Glasgow Road, which runs through Strathblane, on the outskirts of Glasgow, is closed for five days for resurfacing.

But the closure means that anyone wishing to drive from one end of the village to the other must travel through Milngavie and back.

Chef quits his job at Hilton hotel to run village coffee shop and restaurant

VOLUNTEERS who run Killearn Village Hall have pulled off a coup by persuading one of Scotland’s top chefs to take over the catering there.

Simon Whitley has just left his job as executive chef at the Hilton Worldwide in Glasgow to run the coffee shop and a ‘pop-up’ restaurant at the recently-refurbished hall.
