AN EXCITING project to transform a dilapidated old town hall in a rural village into a state-of-the-art facility is well underway.

CANCER sufferers from Killearn and Balfron are going to benefit from a new free transport service to hospital appointments for radiotherapy treatment.

The ‘Rotarun’ scheme was introduced by the Rotary Club of Strathendrick after they discovered that many patients who need radiotherapy treatments at the Beatson Hospital or elsewhere have experienced difficulty with transport.

Central Scotland Police are appealing for information about a car and driver that hit a woman outside Glengoyne Distillery, Dumgoyne, near Killearn.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 6 at around 5.55pm on the A81 Blanesmithy to Blanefield Road.

A Killearn businessman was awarded an MBE last week for his services to the business community and charity work spanning 20 years.

John Fortune-Fraser (80) was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours list and presented with the award by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace last week.

The police slammed parents for being ‘niave’ after they had to ‘babysit’ over 100 teenagers who met in Killearn for a drunken party.

Children aged 13 to 14 from nearby Stirlingshire villages met up in the posh village on Saturday, October 13 after telling parents they were going for a sleepovers with pals.

KILLEARN’S first ever beer festival at The Old Mill at the beginning of June has been hailed as a phenomenal success this week by the organisers.

Despite the rainy weather everyone enjoyed the fortnight of fun, frolics and community camaraderie thanks to a fantastic line-up of events for the village Hoolie.

Killearn Primary School is going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of moving to its present site in the village and 10 years of the new building with a special concert in June.

There has been a school in Killearn since 1875 – the ‘Old Nursery School’ just off Main Street.
