Parks suffer in jubilee status bid

Poor marketing has been blamed for Killearn’s public park being the only one in the Stirling Council to be nominated for national recognition as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Eleven local parks were put forward by the council for the Queen Elizabeth Fields Challenge, which seeks to retain and protect 2012 playing fields and parks across the UK, including 214 in Scotland.

Join in a wheely fun event

Keen cyclists are being urged to sign up for a wheely special charity cycle run this June to raise cash for Glasgow University Cancer Trust.

Participants will set off from Drymen on Saturday, June 23 continue to Balmaha and then they will travel by ferry to Luss.

The event is sponsored by The Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha, Killearn Garage, Pottery Tearoom, Drymen and Strathendrick Cycle Group.

Football: Forth and Endrick season begins

Summer football is back with us – at least in the shape of the Forth and Endrick League which will start this weekend.

Eleven teams will take part this season. Thornhill have retained their membership of the association but unfortunately have not yet been able to find the personnel to let them resume in the competitions.

Stirling Council backs internet improvement plans

Stirling Council has approved plans to improve access to and the quality of the area’s internet connections.

The council’s finance and economy committee backed moves to enhance local access to fibre-optic broadband.

Snow closes Scottish schools and causes travel problems

Accidents were reported around the country and a school bus came off the road between Killearn and Balfron in Stirlingshire but nobody was injured in the incident.

The Met Office has put out a renewed warning of snow for eastern and south west Scotland which lasts until Saturday.

New bid to revitalise Killearn Hospital site

Developers are embarking on a new bid to transform the former Killearn Hospital site.

The site has been considered an eyesore by many for decades, with several ideas for redeveloping the site failing to come to fruition.

Killearn 10K : 8th June 2013

Encouraged by the success of the Hoolie 10k, and due to popular demand, the Killearn 10k is now a stand alone event, facilitated by members of jogscotland Killearn. This event is SAL affiliated. It is classified as trail, but is multi-terrain with tarmac, forest path, farm track and open grassland. It is open to entrants aged 16 and over with a limit set of 150 participants.

Shopping and theatre trip for Strathendrick Pals

STRATHENDRICK Pals meet for their first day out of the year when they undertake a shopping and theatre visit to Callander.

The show on Saturday, March 23 is the musical Anything Goes at Callander Park School.
